Received Your Skill for Life Form? - What to do Next
Once you have received your Skill For Life" form with PAID stamped on it. Please fill it in & send the top 2 sheets (white & green; keep the pink for your records) to : Duncan Jones, OAGAM, 25 Coverley Road, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7EU. The white copy of your Enrolment form is sent by us to IAM Head Office, which will start the clock on your 12 month IAM membership. OAGAM subscriptions (£10) run from April 1st to March 31st the following year. A single renewal date is easier to handle (the database secretary is also a volunteer) than having different dates for all members.
Soon after, you will be contacted by an Observer who will guide you through the course, over 6 one-to-one sessions. This should be sufficient to prepare you for the IAM Advanced test. The IAM will send you a pack including your IAM membership card and a book called 'How to be a Better Rider' or "How to be a Better Driver" which we recommend you read through before starting your observed rides/drives.
Like police riders/drivers, we also follow "The System", as explained in a book called "Motorcycle Roadcraft" or "Roadcraft" which is available from all good book sellers. It is priced around £10 and is thoroughly recommended to further develop your advanced riding/driving skills.
We are a sociable, friendly club for riders/drivers in the Oxfordshire area, and as we are affiliated to the IAM, we can help you learn advanced riding/driving to the Advanced Motorcycle/Car Test standard and beyond.
If you have any questions please use the contact us link & we will do our best to assist you. If you have problems or concerns about the Skill for Life course while your are on it, please raise these with your Observer or with Duncan and we will do our best to help you. |
